UAE E-Invoicing: Key Dates and What SMEs Should Do Now

What the UAE's mandatory e-invoicing system is, when it applies to your business and the practical steps to take in 2026.

What is changing

The UAE is introducing mandatory electronic invoicing for business-to-business and business-to-government transactions. Invoices will be exchanged as structured data through Accredited Service Providers (ASPs) on a Peppol-based network, and invoice data will be reported to the FTA. A PDF sent by email will no longer count as an e-invoice.

The framework was set out in Ministerial Decisions No. 243 and No. 244 of 2025. Business-to-consumer invoices are outside the first phase.

Key dates

The Ministry of Finance has published a phased timeline. Always check the latest announcement, as dates can be revised.

  • Pilot phase with selected taxpayers from 1 July 2026.
  • Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more: appoint an ASP by 31 July 2026 and go live from 1 January 2027.
  • Businesses with revenue below AED 50 million: appoint an ASP by 31 March 2027 and go live from 1 July 2027.
  • Government entities: from 1 October 2027.

Why SMEs should start now

E-invoicing exposes weak data. Each invoice will need accurate customer details, including the customer's TRN, correct VAT treatment and consistent product and service descriptions. Businesses that clean up their customer and supplier records now will find the switch far easier.

A readiness checklist

  • Confirm your revenue band and the dates that apply to you.
  • Check whether your accounting software or ERP will integrate with an ASP.
  • Clean customer and supplier master data, including TRNs and addresses.
  • Review how you issue credit notes and handle invoice corrections.
  • Shortlist ASPs and plan testing before your go-live date.

How Countify can help

We review your bookkeeping data and VAT treatment ahead of e-invoicing, fix master data problems and work with your software provider or ASP so your first live invoices are right.
