Accounting and tax services in Umm Al Quwain

The Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone (UAQ FTZ) is a popular low-cost option for consultants, agencies and online businesses, many owned by founders who live in Dubai, the UK or elsewhere. The licence is simple; the tax position often is not.

A common misunderstanding is that a free zone licence means 0% corporate tax. The 0% rate applies only to a Qualifying Free Zone Person's qualifying income, and most services supplied to mainland UAE customers or to individuals are not qualifying income. For a UAQ consultancy, the right answer is often the standard regime with Small Business Relief — we check which gives the better, safer result before you file.

Accounting in Umm Al Quwain: common questions

Does a UAQ Free Zone company pay 0% corporate tax?

Only on qualifying income, and only if it meets all Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions, including adequate substance and audited financial statements. Income from mainland or individual customers is usually taxed at 9% above AED 375,000 unless a de minimis exception applies.

Can you manage my UAQ company's accounts if I live in the UK?

Yes. Countify has offices in Glasgow and Dubai, and many of our UAQ clients are UK-based owners. We work on cloud software and file with the FTA on EmaraTax, so no local presence is needed for the accounting.
