You may apply voluntarily if your taxable supplies and expenses in the last 12 months are below AED 187,500, unless you registered voluntarily less than 12 months ago.

Stopping taxable supplies altogether always triggers mandatory deregistration.

Mandatory and voluntary deregistration

Deregistration is mandatory when a business stops making taxable supplies altogether, for example when it closes or sells the business. It is voluntary when turnover falls below the voluntary threshold of AED 187,500. Missing the 20-business-day deadline for mandatory deregistration carries an FTA penalty.

Before you apply

File all outstanding returns and pay any VAT and penalties. On deregistration you may have to account for output VAT on stock and assets on hand on which you recovered input VAT. If you are closing a company, our company formation and liquidation team handles the tax deregistrations in the right order.
