How DEWS differs from gratuity

Gratuity is an unfunded promise paid at the end; DEWS is funded monthly, invested and portable. The rates are set to equal 21 and 30 days of basic salary a year. Employers outside the DIFC can join similar voluntary savings schemes, but most still pay gratuity under the labour law; see the gratuity calculator.
